Cheque security has improved significantly over the last several decades. One interesting feature that you want to make sure your cheque provider includes is invisible fluorescent fibers. This small security element can prevent a stolen cheque from being falsified or forged and can mean all the difference in protecting both the payer and the recipient.
These fluorescent fibers and cellulose fibers are invisible to the naked eye. In regular daylight, seeing these fibers is completely impossible. However, under UV light, the fibers become visible. These particular fibers cannot be reproduced by the use of a photocopier or printer so if an individual attempts to steal a written cheque and alter it this particular security feature does not transfer.
This feature can be very important if an altered cheque is used fraudulently to prove to a banking institution that it is not one of your cheques.
There are different invisible fluorescent fiber features the cheque can take advantage of. The placement of the UV based information is important, as fibers often need to make both large images and provide small details. For expert cheque forgers, it is still possible to replicate the fluorescent fibers (experts are able to replicate just about anything), that is why there needs to be both large images and small details using the fibers. A simple fluorescent light placed in an area of the cheque someone wouldn’t think to check can be an additional bonus, especially when there are larger images in the fluorescent fibers already present on the cheque. This way, someone who does have the capabilities of reproducing the larger images are more likely to miss the finite details placed in the cheque.
Replicating the fluorescent fibers of cheques remains one of the most difficult processes for any cheque thief, so a business is able to protect itself by using this technology.
